Musical Minds

Musical Minds is our singing group for clients with dementia and their partners or carers. It is based on extensive research which indicates that singing regularly can both lift the mood and reduce cognitive decline for individuals with dementia.

Most importantly, Musical Minds is fun! The group meets every Monday afternoon in the Befrienders' Drop-In Centre and sing a range of songs which have been chosen by our clients and their carers. The group is facilitated by our Dementia Support Worker and is supported by several volunteers.

Musical Minds, like all of our group activities, also offers the opportunity for clients to make and maintain their own social relationships. Following the singing, time is taken to sit down and have a blether. Our Information Officer is always on hand to help clients access information in a variety of formats, signpost to other services, and assist with form-filling, etc.

The Singing Bees

We started a new singing group, dubbed The Singing Bees, in September 2017 led by a volunteer with a wealth of choir experience, and following the gift of a piano. This group made their performing debut in front of 100 people at the Senior Citizens Club in Dunoon in November 2017 singing songs standards and songs from the shows.
