Poetry in Dunoon
March 2017

A number of older people involved with the project spoke to us and their friends in the service about how much they enjoyed writing poems and short stories and even just noting down their thoughts. We have asked others who are involved with the project if they would consider composing and donating original poems to us. A very helpful group of students at Argyll College have kindly offered to help design and print a poetry booklet of all the work. This is one of Marion's most recent poems:

As I sat by the window
On a cold frosty day
I looked out to the garden
To see a lovely display.
A clump of snowdrops
Nodding their heads in the wind
My precious little snowdrops
Do not go away.
They look at me
As if to say
‘Do not be sad
We will be back
At this time next year’

Cowal Elderly Befrienders is 21!
March 2017
Cowal Elderly Befrienders is 21 this year! In the early days the project worked with around 45 people around the Dunoon area - the charity has gradually expanded to provide a weekly service for around 180 people across Cowal and Bute with 7 staff, 27 fantastic volunteers and 4 disabled access vehicles... we would like to mark the occasion with a series of events throughout the year. The first of these is our poetry project which we are working on with our clients and a group of HND students from Argyll College, more information above...

Raining in Dunoon
November/December 2016
As part of an new initiative involving creativity, we worked with our members and friends in the community to write and record an original song ('Raining in Dunoon') and create an accompanying film. We arranged to have the film released on Facebook and Youtube, and the song is available for download on Amazon, Itunes and Spotify. We will have a limited number of CDs available locally in Cowal, or by writing to us at our contact address (Cowal Elderly Befrienders SCIO, 128 John Street, Dunoon, ARGYLL PA23 7BN) with a cheque or P/O for £5 payable to Cowal Elderly Befrienders SCIO. You can access the film and song by clicking on the song title below...
